Juan Francisco Baniqued and Samantha Borlain, both 13 years old, emerged as champions for age group 13-14 in the 2016 Alaska Ironkids Subic held yesterday, March 5.

Boys and girls aged 6 to 14 years old came with their parents and siblings to swim in Wow Recreation and Activity Center, bike along closed roads of Subic Bay Freeport Zone, and run inside Remu Field.

Baniqued finished the 400m swim, 12km bike, and 3km run with official time of 43:08. Joe Bernard Sarmiento came in second place at 43:54, followed by Joshua Alexander Ramos at 44:16.

Borlain finished the same distance at 47:52. Everly Janarie Macalalad and Pia Francesca Suarez won second and third honors, respectively, with a time of 50:01 and 51:57.

Meanwhile, Zedrick James Borja and Tara Borlain, were champions for age group 11-12. Borja, 11, clocked in 37:16 to finish the 300m swim, 9km bike, and 2km race course. Tara, 12, finished the same course in 35:06.

Joining Borja in the podium are Eric Almendral and Johann Carlos Manubay who finished in 39:54 and 40:05.

Micaella Barlin and Alison Ann Noble closely trailed Tara, finishing in 36:36 and 36:54.

Other age group categories are 9-10 (200m swim, 6km bike, 1.5km run) and 6-8 (100m swim, 3km bike, 1km run).

Play categories are also available for participants who are quite new to triathlon and would want to just have a feel of the sport.
